Two Upcoming Lightroom 5 and Printing Workshops in Long Island, New York, and special offers that end on Mon. 9/9

Hello and happy almost end of Summer! The very cold weather is not something I’m looking forward to, but that’s for another blog post and season! It’s been a while since I’ve announced my workshops here on ImagingBuffet.com (I often announce them on my Facebook Page at facebook.com/andrewdarlow and on Twitter at twitter.com/andrewdarlow if you’d like to connect).

Even though I mentioned it on Facebook and Twitter, I wanted to make sure that I tell everyone here about the “early bird” offers that will expire at midnight tonight for two of my upcoming workshops in Long Island, New York on Sat/Sun November 9 and 10, 2013. I’ve been doing similar workshops on Lightroom and Printing for many years, and I look forward to sharing many of the new tools and features that can be found in Adobe’s Lightroom 5, as well as many of my “tried and true” printing and “screen to print” color matching secrets. If you are unsure at this time whether you are free on either of those dates, there’s no risk because  a 100% refund is given for cancellations made by 10/10/2013 (50% by 11/3 or 11/4 depending on which workshop you reserve).

In this photo, I’m demonstrating a few things things during a full-day workshop in New Jersey: the look and feel of a specific inkjet-printable canvas material mounted on an easy-to-assemble stretcher bar kit; and the importance of lighting in a gallery, home, etc.

In this image, I’m demonstrating the differences between two different inkjet papers during a full-day workshop in New Jersey. I’m also demonstrating the value of using a standard calibration image for print testing.

A Survey For Professional Photographers with a Free Subscription to a Great Newsetter

A friend recently contacted me to let me know about a survey for professional photographers that is currently live (the date of this post is 8/22/2013). I took the survey (it took me about 10 minutes to complete), and I have a few suggestions for those who plan to take it:

1. If you are a portrait/wedding/pet/commercial pro photographer, this is a good survey for you to consider taking.
2. If you only sell your work as “fine-art” at festivals or through galleries/websites, I would not take this survey.

Here is some text from the survey that describes what you’ll receive for participating (if you choose to provide contact information):

“Upon completion of this survey, you will receive a gift for your time. You will begin receiving a 1-year subscription to Photo Imaging News International Edition newsletter via email. This is a bi-monthly publication that costs $180…The second is a summary of this survey providing a clear snapshot of the pro photographer market.”

Two people will also receive $150 cash from a drawing of those who answer the survey and provide contact information.

There is no date listed on the site for when the survey will end, so I would recommend participating soon if you are interested.

Here is the link to take the survey.

Quick Review of Snapbird.org, a Great Twitter Search Tool, Plus My First 12 QuickPhotoTips

A while back, I was trying to search for some messages inside of Twitter’s native app, and the results were not very good. Unless I’m doing something wrong, when I searched my user name “from:andrewdarlow” and added the words “QuickPhotoTip,” it only returned 8 out of 12 of my QuickPhotoTips (very odd). So I went searching for a better tool, and I found a free online Twitter search app at Snapbird.org.

The Snapbird.org simple, yet powerful interface

After authorizing the app, I was able to add my name and a search term, and it went searching through my Tweets (hundreds at a time). It found all of the QuickPhotoTips, unlike Twitter’s native app. I then wanted to embed them in this article, so I put my thinking cap on and decided to make a PDF via Apple’s built-in PDF tool that allows you to “Print to a PDF.” I then searched for some PDF embed options and remembered Scribd.com, so I used that, and embedded it below via that excellent free tool:

Andrew Darlow’s Quick Photo Tips (001-012) by Andrew Darlow

Just click on the links after any of the shortened tips above, and you will be redirected to my Facebook Page where you can read the full text.

I hope you enjoy the tips! If you’d like to read more, I invite you to LIKE my FB page at https://www.facebook.com/andrewdarlow (there you’ll find 3000+ links to articles, gallery exhibitions, more photography tips, Lightroom/Photoshop videos and tutorials, etc.). Or you can just click on the LIKE button to the right to like the page if you are logged into Facebook. And you can find my full Twitter feed at https://www.twitter.com/andrewdarlow.

I think Snapbird.org is an invaluable resource for anyone looking for anything that has been “Tweeted,” especially if you have specific Twitter users/feeds that you’d like to search.
