This info just came across my e-mail in-box. I just took a look at the new PhotoshopCAFE Photoshop CS4 Learning Site and I must say that it is impressive. There are free Photoshop CS4 video tutorials, as well as an excellent 70 page CS4 Superguide that contains a great overview of new features contained in the following applications: Photoshop CS4 and CS4 Extended, Flash CS4, Illustrator CS4, Indesign CS4, Dreamweaver CS4, Fireworks CS4, Premiere CS4, After Effects CS4, Bridge CS4. I know what it takes to write tutorials and articles like these, and I think they’ve put together an excellent team to share information with users of the apps.
This new feature walk through of Photoshop CS4 is also excellent.
PhotoshopCAFE has also launched its own magazine, entitled Creative Studio (CAFE), which will be a quarterly online (and free) publication. The first issue of the magazine is the CS4 Superguide. You can find all the CS4 Learning Site content, and download the PDF on their site at PhotoshopCAFE.com.

I just read a Twitter message by Dan Havlik, Technology Editor at Photo District News. In the short note (all Twitter notes are brief), he mentioned his article on PDNGearGuide about Day 1 at Photokina, being held in Cologne, Germany from September 23-29, 2008. I like Dan’s writing style and take on things. You can read the article here, and I recommend returning for follow-up articles as the show progresses. In a related article, Dan covers Leica’s announcement of a 37.5 megapixel digital SLR named the Leica S2.
Imaging-Resource.com has an impressive section of their site dedicated to covering the show. There are videos, many press releases, and a lot of well-written articles about the things their editors are seeing. You can find the main page here.
For even more news from the show, interspersed with many other photo-related stories, check out ImagingInsider.com.
For general information about photokina, visit the main show site page here. The official news blog for the show can be found here. I was particularly impressed by the number of Photography exhibitions being held during the event. You can find a list of all the exhibitions on the main show site under “Supporting programme.” I’d love to see the Lomography show. For more about Lomography, visit the Lomographic Society International site. This description is from the official newsfeed: “Always open to visitors, the Analogue Lomography Lounge will offer a gigantic LomoWall exhibition with 100,000 photos and will also host presentations, workshops, and crash courses about analogue photography run by international lomography experts.”
The wide range of exhibitions at photokina truly showcase the power of photography, and the show appears to be THE place for companies to announce and show their new cameras, printers and other photo products.
I recently had the honor of being one of the jurors for an upcoming fine art juried show entitled “Urban Legends and Country Tales.” This show is an international print exhibit that will be on display from October 4 to November 15, 2008 at Bonita Museum in Bonita, CA. The opening and public reception will be 6-8:30pm on Saturday, October 4, 2008.
I found the work to be very diverse, and many of the pieces really moved me. There was a mix of unretouched photographs, digitally retouched images, images created entirely using a computer, and images that had a combination of photography and drawing/painting effects (produced using a computer).
This description of the show is from the Digital Art Guild website:
The Digital Art Guild brings an international print exhibit to the San Diego area. Fifty outstanding prints demonstrate the multiple directions art has taken in the contemporary art world – both in pluralism of styles and the hybridism of technique and media. In addition to the print exhibit, a companion exhibition book is available…Artists represented in Urban Legends and Country Tales are from San Diego, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Hawaii, New York, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, Florida, England and Canada.
Admission is free to the Bonita Museum, 4355 Bonita Road, Bonita CA 91902. Hours are 10:00am – 4:00pm – Wednesday through Saturday. For more information, including a list of exhibiting artists and a look at some of the entries, visit the show page on the Digital Art Guild’s website.
