Eight Day DSLR Photography Workshop March 29–April 6, 2009

After communicating with Arthur Bleich, Publisher of dpcorner.com and a Contributing Editor to Rangefinder magazine, I learned of an eight day DSLR Photography Workshop that sets sail on March 29, 2009. This is the ninth Digital Photography Workshop at Sea, and it looks to be an outstanding opportunity for anyone who wants to learn how to use a DSLR better (and enjoy some of the beautiful islands of the southern Caribbean).

Event and Book Signing 11/21/2008 in NJ

I’d like to invite readers of ImagingBuffet.com to a free event this Friday evening 11/21/2008 from 6-8pm in New Brunswick, NJ at Alfa Art Gallery. I’ll primarily be showing a new series of pigment inkjet prints of images that are shown in my book, 301 Inkjet Tips and Techniques, and I’ll be answering questions about inkjet printing. I’ll also be giving away 100 signed 11×14 posters (shown below):

It is an invitation-only event, and an RSVP is requested to attend. To RSVP, please visit this page.

All the best and I hope to see some ImagingBuffet readers there!

An Interview with Henry Wilhelm by Michael Reichmann of Luminous-Landscape.com

I just had a chance to listen to an interview between Henry Wilhelm and Michael Reichmann on Luminous-Landscape.com. This is a fantastic interview filled with no-nonsense information about different paper types, ink types, inkjet vs. silver halide and the meaning of buzz words like “archival” and “permanence.”

There is a video and audio version available. I listened to the audio interview, which is segmented into about 20 parts for a total duration of about 68 minutes. On the site, Michael Reichmann explains that the interview “was conducted on behalf of Epson, to be used as part of their 2008/2009 Epson Print Academy. The clip used by Epson was edited down to 14 minutes for use in The Print Academy.”

Michael Reichmann’s extensive printing experience and photography expertise help make the exchanges especially interesting and pertinent to serious amateur and professional photographers (as well as other artists who want to understand the printing process better). In addition, the estimated display life of different ink/material combinations under different conditions, such as high humidity and sunlight, are covered in various sections of the interview.

Over about the last five years I’ve had the opportunity to speak with Henry Wilhelm on a number of occasions, and listening to this interview took me back to those experiences. You can find the audio portion of the interview here, and the video portion can be found on this page.

And if you haven’t yet visited the Wilhelm Imaging Research website, I highly recommend it. The site has a wealth of information, including overviews of many different inkjet printers, with extensive test results for many different ink and paper combinations (including some estimated ratings with spray coatings like PremierArt Print Shield).
