I recently received this announcement. I’ve had the honor of meeting Al Satterwhite on multiple occasions over the years. He is a great photographer who has had a career in both film and still imagery.

A limited number of special boxed sets are available which will include two 11″ x 14″ archival pigment prints, one each of Ali and Schwarzenegger, selected by the author.

Below is an overview of the book, as well as quote from Roy Firestone:

This book features photographs of Muhammad Ali and Arnold Schwarzenegger from the 1970’s. Both iconic figures were at the height of their physical prowess during this time. Satterwhite’s black and white photographs are remarkably vivid portraits of these heroes, exploring their brawn and willpower.

Arnold Schwarzenegger does not seem to be comparable to Muhammad Ali on the surface. But look closer. Both Ali and Schwarzenegger came from nowhere to win titles. Both men were great physical specimens, but later became known for their wit, humanity and crowd-pleasing nature, not merely for their brawn. And, of course, both men became known as two of the greatest icons of their time. They did it largely because they were both able to overcome stereotypes and false perceptions. – Roy Firestone

I’ll also be giving away 100 signed 11×14 posters (shown below):

All the best and I hope to see some ImagingBuffet readers there!

Call for Entries Deadline 11/12/2008: “Idea of Self” at the Center for Fine Art Photography

c4fap.jpgAlthough I have a little widget for upcoming shows on the right side of this site, I thought that this one was worth a special mention. The Center for Fine Art Photography’s “Idea of Self” call for entries deadline is today (11/12/2008) at 11:59PM MST (UTC-7).

Below is the description of the show as noted in the prospectus:

How do you see yourself? How do you think of yourself? How do you think other people see you? Are you the fly on the wall or the center of attention? The Idea of Self stretches further than the self portrait, and into the recesses of the mind, spirit and our subconscious. The Idea of Self takes us on a journey of self enlightenment and discovery allowing the photographer to truly bare their soul or to hide it away. This investigation of who we are, or who we think we are, is uniquely represented through the art of photography.

The Juror for this show is Susan A. Zadeh, founder, publisher, editor in chief and artistic director of EYEMAZING, an international magazine on contemporary photography based in Amsterdam. EYEMAZING won a Lucie Award for the 2008 Photography Magazine of the Year. To view EYEMAZING Magazine visit www.eyemazing.com.

I am a member of The Center For Fine Art Photography’s Ambassador’s Circle, which is a group of volunteers who help to share information about events and calls for entry.

More information, including a full list of the awards, can be found on the show’s call for entries page.
