Lightroom 2.2 Update Released

I just received this announcement about Lightroom 2.2 being released. One of the best features I noticed is that Adobe Camera Profiles are now provided in the application, eliminating the need to install them manually. Below are excerpts from the announcement:

Adobe has released an update to its Photoshop Lightroom software, available immediately as a free upgrade for existing Lightroom 2 users. Lightroom 2.2 adds raw support for seven new camera models including the Canon EOS 5D Mark II and Canon PowerShot G10. The update also includes several refinements such as enhanced performance of the local adjustment tools.

In addition, Adobe’s Camera Profiles are now available natively within Lightroom 2.2 and are provided automatically as part of this release. As the visual starting point for the raw processing workflow, camera profiles provide flexibility that allows photographers to quickly achieve their desired rendering.

Lightroom 2.2 supports the following additional camera models: Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon PowerShot G10, Panasonic DMC-G1, Panasonic DMC-FX150, Panasonic DMC-FZ28, Panasonic DMC-LX3 and Leica D-LUX 4.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.2 is available now as a free download for
existing Lightroom 2 customers here.

Alan Klotz Gallery 30th Annual Holiday Print Sale 12/12-12/21/2008

Over the last few years I’ve enjoyed visiting the website of Alan Klotz Gallery, and I particularly enjoy seeing vintage work dating back over 100 years from artists like Josef Sudek and Edward Curtis. Often, those images are just a short click away from photographs by contemporary photographers, which makes the site that more interesting.

For example, there is an absolutely stunning collection of images by Bob Kolbrener on the site (just search for Kolbrener under “Our Artists.”)

Starting tonight, Friday, December 12th at 5pm, approximately 300 vintage and contemporary photographs will be available for viewing (some framed and some unframed) at Alan Klotz Gallery in New York City. Pricing for the prints will be available on this page of the website starting at 5:00pm to coincide with the show’s opening.

Show Dates: December 12- December 21, 2008
Location: Alan Klotz Gallery
511 West 25th Street, #701
New York, NY 10001

Hours: Wednesday – Sunday, Noon – 6

Upcoming Workshops Jan. 9 and 10, and One Space for 12/13

I’ve been conducting full-day inkjet printing/color management workshops over the past six months in Berkley Heights, NJ. The space where they are held is excellent, and the small class size of no more than five students helps make it easy for people to ask questions. Below is the press release for two full-day workshops that I’m giving January 9 and 10, 2008. Also, there is one space available for the same workshop this Sat. October 13 from 10:00am-5:00pm.

BERKLEY HEIGHTS, NJ, December 10, 2008 – New Jersey Media Center LLC will host two separate full-day workshops, entitled Fine-Art Inkjet Printing: How to Prepare Files and Make Gallery-Quality Prints on Friday, January 9, 2009 and Saturday, January 10, 2009 from 10:00am-5:00pm. The workshops, held at Nancy Ori Studios in Berkley Heights, NJ and conducted by photographer and consultant Andrew Darlow, are designed for professional and amateur photographers, as well as other artists.

The workshops, each limited to just five participants, will cover the following: an overview of pro-quality printers from Canon, Epson and HP; a description of more than 20 recommended inkjet papers (including glossy, fiber gloss, and watercolor); color management hardware and software options (including a demonstration of how to make custom monitor and printer profiles); and tips for optimizing workflow and print quality with specific papers and printers in Adobe Lightroom 2, Photoshop CS2/CS3/CS4, and other programs.

Selected prints output from Canon, Epson and HP printers will be demonstrated and discussed, and each attendee will have at least two prints made of their work on a pigment-based inkjet printer (13-inch-wide Epson and HP printers will be used). Participants will receive more than 30 letter-sized blank sheets of high-end inkjet papers for testing, and a class binder detailing the contents of the presentation, as well as the step-by-step print workflow covered in the workshop will be provided to each participant. Each attendee will also receive a 30 minute private phone follow-up consultation with Andrew Darlow. Continue reading
