Adobe CS4 Officially Released: Related Links and Webcast Info

In case you haven’t seen the news, earlier today, September 23, 2008, Adobe Systems released a big update to the Creative Suite family of applications. There is a lot to cover, and after reviewing a number of resources that cover this news, I’ve highlighted a few sites that lead to more links, as well as some direct links to related info.

1. First, if you receive this e-mail in time, I recommend visiting this page to sign up for a live webcast to see many of the new features in the CS4 suite. I was unable to attend the 9am Eastern (EST) webcast, so I signed up for the 9am Pacific (PST) webcast.

2. Next, I recommend reading this post by John Nack, which will lead to many excellent resources.

3. And to see the full lineup of CS4 products and new/upgrade pricing (all of which include either Photoshop CS4 or Photoshop CS4 Extended), visit this page on Adobe.com.

4. There is also a very good overview of a late Beta version of Photoshop CS4 by Wayne Cosshall of DImageMaker.com here, with some mini tutorials.

Art Exhibition in San Diego 10/4-11/15: Urban Legends and Country Tales

I recently had the honor of being one of the jurors for an upcoming fine art juried show entitled “Urban Legends and Country Tales.” This show is an international print exhibit that will be on display from October 4 to November 15, 2008 at Bonita Museum in Bonita, CA. The opening and public reception will be 6-8:30pm on Saturday, October 4, 2008.

I found the work to be very diverse, and many of the pieces really moved me. There was a mix of unretouched photographs, digitally retouched images, images created entirely using a computer, and images that had a combination of photography and drawing/painting effects (produced using a computer).

This description of the show is from the Digital Art Guild website:

The Digital Art Guild brings an international print exhibit to the San Diego area. Fifty outstanding prints demonstrate the multiple directions art has taken in the contemporary art world – both in pluralism of styles and the hybridism of technique and media. In addition to the print exhibit, a companion exhibition book is available…Artists represented in Urban Legends and Country Tales are from San Diego, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Hawaii, New York, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, Florida, England and Canada.

Admission is free to the Bonita Museum, 4355 Bonita Road, Bonita CA 91902. Hours are 10:00am – 4:00pm – Wednesday through Saturday. For more information, including a list of exhibiting artists and a look at some of the entries, visit the show page on the Digital Art Guild’s website.

Seth Resnick Special Event in NYC: 9/10/2008

I just received an e-mail announcement about an event that looks very interesting. Seth Resnick will be doing a special event entitled: R&R – Resilience & Rejuvenation – for the Digital Photographer in New York City at Adorama Camera on September 10, 2008 from 6:30-9:30PM.

This is a portion of the event description:

Join us as Seth shares anecdotes on dealing with clients, both for assignment and stock, favorite and most unusual projects and what drove him to tackle them, his observations on the state of the industry and his take on stock photography.

The cost of this seminar is $25, and each attendee, in exchange for a copy of their registration receipt, will be given a $25 coupon valid for 30 days towards the purchase of any merchandise when presented at Adorama’s retail store or online at www.adorama.com.

Seth Resnick is a great teacher and many people (including me) have benefited from his lectures at seminars and events like the PhotoPlus Expo. The D-65 Workshops he hosts with his partner Jamie Spritzer across the United States consistently sell out. They center around workflow using Photoshop, and they now include training with Lightroom 2.0.

This evening event is Sponsored by Adorama and Canon. For more information or to register, visit this page.
