Adorama’s 100 Photography Tips in 100 Days

I had seen an announcement a few weeks back on imaginginsider.com about Adorama’s “100 in 100” 100 Photography Tips in 100 Days. But I just got a chance to look over the 54 tips that are posted as of today, and I’m very impressed.

There are many great tips from a number of talented photographers that cover everything from testing if your sensor is dusty, to what a high-key histogram looks like. I highly recommend checking it out, and I think all levels of photographers can benefit from many of the tips. In some cases, if specific products are mentioned, they are linked to products in Adorama’s online catalog. Here’s one example: One of the most useful tips that I read had info about securing model releases. A 50 sheet model release form pad was then linked to at the end of the tip.

You can find Adorama’s 100 Photography Tips in 100 Days here.

There are also hundreds of other helpful and well-written tips and articles on the AIRC (Adorama Imaging Resource Center). This is the home page of the AIRC. It’s rare to see so much editorial content on a store’s website (reviews are far more common), but I think that it’s great for photographers to have so many ways to learn more about taking, processing, storing and printing images.

Though a bit different, Amazon.com has an extensive blog-like feature called “Amazon Daily” that highlights a lot of great content across the web. In some cases, like with Adorama’s AIRC, products mentioned will be linked to in Amazon.com’s catalog. You can even customize your Amazon Daily content by choosing from a long list of topics. Stories can then be accessed from your home page at Amazon.com when you log in, or by using an RSS news reader.

Epson’s “Passion of Photography” Podcast Launches

As many readers of this site will know, I’m very passionate about photography, inkjet printing and podcasting. The following news item combines all three of those passions, and I waited a few weeks to listen to a number of the shows that have already been posted before writing this article. If you like to listen to photographers talking about their craft, and how they have been able to succeed in a photographic career, you will enjoy these audio interviews. Each show features a well-known photographer, interviewed by Scott Sheppard, Executive Producer and founder of Inside Mac Media, and host of Inside Digital Photo and Inside Mac Radio.

The guests as of this posting have been: Jack Reznicki, author, educator, commercial photographer, and President of the PPA (Professional Photographers of America); Bob Krist, world renown travel photographer; John Paul Caponigro, Photoshop Hall of Fame member, author of Adobe Photoshop Master Class, an educator and fine artist; and Vincent Versace, an educator, member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals “Instructor Dream Team,” fine artist, and author of Welcome to Oz: A Cinematic Approach to Digital Still Photography with Photoshop.

Each photographer shares information and advice to the audience in their own unique way, and I highly recommend taking a listen. In my opinion, there is nothing like speaking with, or hearing the thoughts and advice of photographers who produce outstanding work.

The shows are part of the Inside Digital Photo show, which you can find out more about here. On the Inside Digital Photo website, you can subscribe to all of the shows through iTunes, or you can listen online to any of the programs. Just click on Passion of Photography from the “Browse by Topic” section to see all of the “Passion of Photography” interviews.

Adobe posts updates to Photoshop Lightroom and the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in

I just received this news and I’m especially interested in seeing the new Raw conversions using the updates. According to Adobe, Lightroom 1.2 and the new Camera Raw 4.2 plug-in include “improved noise reduction for Bayer patterned sensors.” Leaf Aptus 17, 54s and 75s users should also be happy that those cameras are now supported.

Full press release text from Adobe follows:
Adobe has posted updates to Photoshop® Lightroom™ and the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in, both available immediately for download on Adobe.com. The updates provide raw file support for 14 additional camera models and camera backs within Lightroom and Camera Raw, including the popular Canon EOS 40D.

The camera raw functionality in the Adobe Photoshop software, including Photoshop Lightroom, Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop Elements, provides fast and easy access to the raw image formats produced by many leading professional and midrange digital cameras. Working with these digital negatives allows greater artistic control and flexibility while still maintaining the original raw files. Lightroom and the Camera Raw plug-in also support the same functionality for TIFF and JPEG files. Professional photographers can now quickly and easily import and manipulate raw data from the latest DSLR cameras, producing the highest quality results while saving time.

Lightroom 1.2 and the new Camera Raw 4.2 plug-in support 14 additional digital cameras including the Canon EOS 40D; Fuji FinePix IS-1; Leaf Aptus 17, 54s and 75s; Olympus EVOLT E-510; Panasonic DMC-FZ18; Pentax K100D Super; Phase One P 20+, P 21+, P 25+, P 30+ and P 45+; and Sony A700. Both updates also include improved noise reduction for Bayer patterned sensors, providing better image detail at default noise reduction values. The Lightroom update includes corrections to Microsoft® Windows® Vista™ grid display errors and XMP auto-write performance.
