Walt Mossberg To Review Apple iPhone on CNBC 1:30pm EST Wed 6/27

I just saw the announcement that Walt Mossberg, technology writer for the Wall Street Journal will review the Apple iPhone on CNBC 1:30pm EST Wed 6/27/2007. I’m primarily interested in the quality of the phone connection, audio quality when using Bluetooth devices, battery life when using Bluetooth, WiFi, etc., digital camera image quality, PDF viewing, and how well it can function as an “on-the-go” photo and video portfolio for photographers and other creative professionals.

I just came across this video on The Apple Phone Show, posted today. It’s difficult to say whether Mr. Mossberg will add any additional info. I assume his appearance on CNBC will be live. The Apple Phone Show site also has links to online reviews by Walt Mossberg and David Pogue, Technology Columnist from The New York Times.

My guess is that the video review will probably be posted here sometime today. (No, that’s not a YouTube link, but it’s always possible it will end up there too).

The Apple Phone Show: An excellent blog and podcast that covers the Apple iPhone.

UPDATE Wed 5:30PM : This was a pretty good interview, though I found the written review by Walt Mossberg on the Wall St. Journal’s website to be far more comprehensive. I did learn from the review that Walt will probably be purchasing one (he has to return the one he tested), which is a good endorsement for Apple. I would like to know what the screen looked like after a few weeks of finger tapping and sliding.

Kingston Technology’s ‘Icons of Photography’ Critique Viewer-Submitted Photos

Over the last few months I’ve reported on Kingston Technology’s mini site, which features a number of well-known photographers. The newest interactive feature, called Critique My Image was recently launched, and includes photographs by people from around the world.

KingstonIcons07.jpg

On the site, twenty photographs are critiqued by world-renowned photojournalist Harry Benson, internationally-acclaimed photojournalist and advertising photographer Colin Finlay, National Geographic photographer Gerd Ludwig and Sports Illustrated photographer Peter Read Miller.

I really enjoyed looking at the images and reading the comments. I thought that the suggestions made were very good, and I was particularly impressed by those offered by Colin Finlay. Finlay commented about not just individual images, but about how the order of individual images in a portfolio can make a stronger impression.

Also very interesting was a before and after look at a few photographs by a few different photographers (critiqued by Gerd Ludwig). By dragging your mouse across the screen, you will see Gerd’s suggested edits as well as the original photos supplied by photographers.

Free Electronics Recycling in NYC June 16-18

This was sent to my e-mailbox a day or two ago, and I thought it was worth sharing. Do what you can to keep the earth a little better!

From Tekserve’s e-mail newsletter: During Father’s Day weekend, Tekserve has teamed up with the Lower East Side Ecology Center to offer free electronics recycling on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-4pm and Monday from 4pm-7pm. New Yorkers will be able to recycle any of their old electronics gear – computers, monitors, printers, scanners, fax-machines, copiers, network devices, keyboards, mice, hard drives, components, TVs, VCRs, DVD players, radios, stereos, cell phones, pagers, PDAs, and telephones – at Tekserve on 23rd Street near 6th Avenue (Old iPods can be traded in for a 10% discount on a new iPod). The components in many electronics can be incredibly hazardous to the environment – contributing up to 70% of the toxins found in landfills – so it’s important that they are properly recycled.

For more details, visit tekserve.com/recycling or contact the Lower East Side Ecology Center at 212.477.4022 or [email protected].

(I have no connection with Tekserve, but I like their store on 34th Street in Manhattan a lot, and they have a lot of good educational seminars which you can learn more about on their website. About a year ago, I attended a seminar with author Adam Engst, and I thought it was fantastic.)
